Norwegian and German technology experts gathered in Grimstad to discuss smart design and applications of composites materials.

“The aim is to share know-how and experiences and hopefully achieve increased collaboration projects across sectors and borders,” says Marit Dolmen, RD&I Manager at GCE NODE.

Among the 27 attendees were representatives from MAI Carbon, a strong German cluster comprised of companies working with carbon fiber reinforced plastics. These carbon composites provide a lightweight construction potential, which could be utilized further in the offshore sector.

The founding partners of MAI Carbon originate from the automobile and space industry, but the 112 member companies cover the whole value chain of carbon composites and usage.

“We are thankful to be able to dive into the German expertise, and contribute with our own offshore competence. GCE NODE has several companies that are strong in composites,” says Dolmen.

MAI Carbon Cluster and GCE NODE signed an agreement for increased cooperation earlier this year.
