Procurement and contracting are drivers for the rising costs problem in the Norwegian offshore oil & gas industry.

The project aims to explore the differences in requirements set by different oil companies to the suppliers of drilling packages and how they changed over time. And to assess the cascade impact of the increased level of detail in product specifications and increased documentation and control requirements on the costs, risks and innovation across the whole value chain.

Research partners include: Menon with Buskerud and Vestfold University College (Economic analysis), Christian Michelsen Research (Technical analysis), Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law at the University of Oslo (Legal analysis) and GCE NODE.

This project is part of PETROSAM2 research program of the Norwegian Research Council and the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. Project period: 18 months (June 2015 – February 2017).
