The GCC countries – Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain – present significant opportunities for Norwegian petroleum service companies. With an estimated $738 billion in investments projected for the upstream oil and gas (O&G) sector in the MENA region from 2023 to 2030, the potential is vast. As Saudi Arabia leads the charge with $234 billion allocated for investment through 2030, and the UAE follows with $75 billion, the region is brimming with potential for growth.
- Saudi Arabia – with the largest drilling activities and plans to increase production to over 13m b/d, the country offers attractive opportunities in several disciplines.
- UAE – planning to increase oil production from 4m to 5m b/d, creating significant upstream opportunities.
- Qatar – aiming to become the largest producer of LNG, Qatar is drilling several wells and has plans to expand LNG terminals and build 100+ LNG vessels across several yards.
- Kuwait – after successfully drilling two offshore wells with significant reserve discoveries, Kuwait plans to drill 40 more offshore wells.
- Oman – with 1m b/d production and challenges related to HPHT and water-cut requires advanced technologies.
- Bahrain – with a production of 0.5m b/d is actively looking for new technologies to expand its production.
