National Oilwell Varco announces contract award by Samsung Heavy Industries for submerged turret production system.

APL, a business unit within our Completion & Production Solutions segment, has been awarded the supply of a large submerged turret production (STP) system for Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.

The STP will be used for Reliance Industries’ FPSO on the MJ field, a major deepwater gas and condensate project off India’s east coast in the Bay of Bengal. The specific location of the STP will be in Block KG-D6 (KG-DWN-98/3) in Krishna Godavari Basin, in 800 meters water depth.

According to a press release from NOV, the STP system is a “unique, innovative, and flexible turret mooring system for FPSO vessels”. The STP swivel, which is mounted on top of the turret buoy, transfers oil, water, gas, signals, and power from the geostationary riser system to the piping and cabling system of the freely weather-vaning production vessel.
