In a presentation on clusters’ role in the transitional phase of the oil and gas industry, Ellingsen said more software and more robots will result in a more cost-effective industry.
“Research and development is a necessity for transformation. GCE NODE will always look for the best partner for research and development, in Norway or abroad”, said Ellingsen. She emphasized the role of GCE NODE in the Center for Offshore Mechatronics, an expert center aimed to find ways to reduce costs in oil and gas.
“We are also involved in the new national laboratory, Mechatronics Innovation Lab, which will be vital in bringing research to the market”, said Ellingsen.
She stressed the need to access data in real time and applauded oil companies that have engaged in a dialogue to let service and equipment suppliers gain access to important data.
