“Companies that are already certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001 must re-certify within September 15, 2018. The first step is to learn about the changes that have been made to these standards”, says Leif Inge Sundtjønn at DNV GL.
Revisions of the standards – minor or major – are made approximately every six years.
“A major revision was published last year, in response to how the world has changed and how it affects businesses”, says Sundtjønn.
All re-certifications and new certifications must meet the new standard.
A growing number of companies, including Statoil and BP, demand that their suppliers are certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001.
“It is reassuring for customers to know that suppliers live up to a certain standard before they buy their products. The process of certification is also valuable for the company being certified. It is a learning process”, says Sundtjønn.
